"Geospatial Visualisation" published

The long awaited book "Geospatial Visualisation" has been published by Springer in their Lecture Notes in Geoinformation and Cartography and Publications of the ICA subseries. The chapters in this book evolved from papers on completed research submitted to GeoCart’2010 / the 1st ICA Regional Symposium on Cartography for Australasia and Oceania, held in Auckland, New Zealand, 1st -3rd September 2010. The book features cutting edge topics such geovisual analytics, mobile / Web 2.0 mapping, spatiotemporal representation, cognitive cartography, historical mapping and 3D technology.

NZCS and ICA NZ conference wrapup

Three major NZCS / ICA conference / workshop events ran in August / September this year. GeoCart'2012, the ICA Mountain Cartography Workshop and the Thematic Map Design workshop all ran successfully. See Cartogram 73 for reports and some photos. The ICA Commission on Mountain Cartography website has a report and other materials from the workshop at Taurewa, Tongariro National Park. A post-workshop publication of papers is to follow in 2013.

New Zealand Cartographic Society Map Award

The NZ Cartographic Society Map Award is back. We welcome any map or cartographic product produced or published after 30 June 2011. Submissions are due by 20th August 2012 so there is still time to enter - follow the link for Entry Form and delivery details.

NZCS Map Design with ArcGIS workshop (Thematic Maps)

We are priveleged to host the Map Design with ArcGIS workshop on Thematic Cartography, given by world-leading cartographers Kenneth Field, Aileen Buckley (both ESRI USA) and Igor Drecki (University of Auckland).

This follows on from the successful 2010 Map Design workshop.

This will take place at the University of Auckland, 27-28th August 2012.
