Celebrating New Zealand mapping

The New Zealand Cartographic Society warmly invites you to join us in Wellington for our 50th anniversary on Saturday, 27 February 2021, at the Queen's Wharf Ballroom.  Celebrations will begin with a mix-and-mingle at 4:30 p.m., followed by the evening programme from 5:30 p.m. until late.  The venue is on the first floor, accessed via a private entrance, with both lift and stairs.

Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner and two complimentary drinks (wine or beer).  A cash bar will also be available.  Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided throughout the evening at no cost.

Please register for the event using the link below.  Payment may be made via bank transfer or Paypal/credit card (additional fees apply).  Those paying via bank transfer will be notified when their payment has cleared into the Society’s account.

CartoChallenge

As part of the Anniversary festivities, we invite you and your families and friends to join us in our CartoChallenge, a walking quiz game around the Wellington CBD and waterfront.

The CartoChallenge will be run – rain or shine – on Saturday, 27 February 2021, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Smartphones or another device with Internet access and a QR reader are required. You will be guided to seven locations of cartographic significance across central Wellington.

On the day, come to Lambton Quay bus station Stop A (next to Rutherford House and the Railway Station subway) at 10 a.m. to register your team and begin the challenge. Each checkpoint will require answering three quiz questions and scanning the checkpoint QR code for a password to unlock the next location. The questions will be suitable for all ages. On completing the quiz, your team must submit your answers for scoring to be in to win a special prize for the most correct answers. There will also be spot prizes at the finish line!

Each team will have until 12 p.m. to navigate to each checkpoint and complete the CartoChallenge. This is a completion game, not a race, and the route should be comfortably walkable by those with small children in 1-1.5 hours.

  • Registrations
    All registrations are considered pending until correct payment has been received and confirmed.

  • Payments
    Payments may be made by either electronic bank transfer or through PayPal (credit card). PayPal transactions are subject to a processing fee.

  • Refunds
    Full refunds are available until Friday, 19 February 2021. No refunds will be given after this date.

  • Photography & Video
    Photographs and video footage will be collected during the event for promotional purposes. By registering, guests give permission for their likeness to be used in promotional materials produced by the New Zealand Cartographic Society.

  • COVID-19 Postponement or Cancellation
    As a precautionary measure, the event is restricted to 100 attendees as per the NZ Level 2 COVID-19 guidelines.  Should the NZ COVID-19 threat level exceed this, all registered guests will be notified as soon as possible of any postponement or cancellations to the event.
